There is a multiplayer deathmatch game.
All player connect in same zone.
PVPKill are save in db with a Top 10 list.

To be able to shoot you must be in fpsview and mouseview (first person with crosshair)

wasd - movement
qe - rotate (only in tpsmode)

h - show top 10 list (your personal score is at bottom of this window)
z - change viewmode (fps/tps)
space - change mouseview (pointer/aim)

leftmouse - shoot (only in fpsmode and aimmode)
middlemouse - rotate camera around player (tpsmode only)
rightmouse - turn player (rightmouseclick - return camera at default position) tpsmode

um i tried playing and i got something that said overload, and a black screen with a blue bar and everytime the blue bar loaded another one of the windows popped up and i was set in an infinate loop of that until i somehow managed to shut down the computer...what does this mean?

...im doing some test with ara vehicule module .. so maybe i can include vehicule with passenger seat and mount weapon...

...maybe again! ... the next version maybe have a self updating program ... but right now with dxstudio file, the updater think the whole file is new ... so its like a full download

is it only me that has dxstudio games lag on his computer? its not a very high poly game or anything, so why does i have a framerate of like 15 or less on games like this

I want use this to make on/off switch for accelerator ... and send "on" when moving and send "off" when stop ... then we adjust exact position.

or i think make the car follow the player position. but for this i must find how i can make car drive to a position.

right now I only move dxmodule at the player position. sometime look funny

how updating vehicle on network "should" be done ?

-top10 pvp is now by session ...that mean when you logoff your personal score is reset, and only your max score in 1 session is show in top10.
-change font and i think i have remove all the ll media.
-add some wall_wood in scenery to help hide. i have externalize the texture. Is a quick model, I made with blender.

some info on the upcoming release...

new enemy ... npc blue robot, so your never alone (npc is control by server)
weapon do not only deal dmg ... there is a diceroll (serverside) with player and target skill so you can miss, do less dmg or give a critical hit.

...
skill menu to see them
gain skill when doing action
receive loot from killing npc .. some new stats about this .. another top10 for the biggest loot

maybe i will add the vehicle module .. and make the other client only see a static vehicle moving (no suspension or wheel move)

@serialkiller : thanks alots updating the wiki its a good idea! i will try find some time. I have some stuff on my todo list .. some of them is update wiki for leaflink and my demo, upload a fix version of the ara vehicle station, as i will use this module in my demo.

big change coming ...

the introduction of npc need big server upgrade.. to simplify thing and later manage the load .. i will split the server in several app. (masterserver, npcserver) for now.

npc server will work like a standard client.. but with some privilege (with or without render). I need this to keep the ai and other stuff server side. (the npcserver can be install on another computer in LAN with masterserver)

later a system like this can be use to calculate physic, ... server side and send data to client.

hope to bring some screen and a release soon

dint have sleep yet...

but...

npcServer seem working good. I was able to connect 2 client and hunt blue npc robot.
for now i render the npcServer to have a global look of the minimap

will need to introduce a defence turret, to protect the player spawn .. and in same time i will add a non pvp area around the player spawn too. there will be a sound when you enter/exit a pvp area

I have masterserver and npcserver, these are 2 different document.

The npcserver is a modifed client and can only be access by masterserver.
You can host on same computer or another computer connected in LAN with masterserver.

The npcserver manage npc. Its like a client that login lots of player in masterserver.

atm when a player login, he his spawn in the npcserver .. all the ai run there.
the attack script call masterserver to get info/stats from player and calculate the result
then send them to all client

edit : the loading can be long! .. to reduce the loading time .. before login, press P and turn off shadow and multisample

we miss way too often .. but this will be fix when you will be able to gain skill when doing action

Some fresh info from next release

you are not alone!!!!
npc now look at you, chase you, attack you
turret defend the spawn point
you receive no loot from mob killed by turret
atm you can loot other player kill, it will change to only you and your team and soon there will be item in loot for now its only display in chat to everyone (playerName killed monsterName)
the spawn point will be pvp safe too

First make a sandbox with all the "basic" of a rpg online persistent world.
Futuristic world, with vehicle, spaceship and other planet to explore.

The "basic" is...
Pvp/pve, team, inventory, mining, crafting, storage, pvptrade, auction, housing, territory, equip different armor part, weapons, tool, clothes, skills, guild, vehicle/spaceship, zone/space/planet/asteroid/spacestation, teleport and any other trade skill or feature that i would like to add.

EDIT :
now you find gold on dead robot body (rare find double the loot)
you cannot loot other kill
a new tougher enemy .. megatoid

As usual... a little screen of what im doing. (inventory and database)

leftmouse on item in inventory name show menu
Showbutton open item window
you can rotate and zoom the item in the window
info/stats/desc are button to show those info in the item window

this is a little app that access the same db as the gameproject... its just faster to create a database management app to build inventory and other thing working with bd. This can be move easilly to the server/client.

I have found this inventory in library or forum ..

new key! - press i for inventory

now there is no button to drop item .. you just drag to ground
other player see droped item
if you logout and come back your droped item stay on ground (other player can take it)
you can pickup item on ground

...then equip weapon/tool ability
...then some image, some model (for items)

next... maybe mining...crafting

Some news.

other player and you see equiped item
cannot equip 2 item in same slot
you see a little E in your inventory when item is equiped
everything is store in db .. so when you login your equiped item are already equip

i think is time to add model and equipment ..
this can take some time .. i never try animate in blender..
the player mesh already done.

I will add a npctrader.. to buy ammo ..
You will start with the default weapon and some ammo .. up to you to kill monster to get gold and other item, to sell them and buy other ammo... or rare item loot by other player ?!?
You will be able to use armor to protect yourself .. use various weapon and tool ..

if everything go well ... il be happy




EDIT : i like doing this project, here a quick shot of what I work on atm.
You can parade with your harness...the harness give more protection when receiving dmg.
the range, dmg and ammo use is base on the equiped weapon
for now, only drop to ground trade is possible

Some news on dev...

Now you can really loot gold from monster (not only text display)
Gold stack in inventory (soon will be able to split stack)
Now server really check weapon stats and use it when attacking (before it was a fix stats)

Next apply armor protection in combat, make monster loot other item than gold, make weapon/tool use ammo/item, make armor/weapon/tool decay when use, will need a repair station

Im working on player .. for now mesh and rig is done ... only need make anim .. (simple texture is applied)
I have made a default armor for this player, there is 7 part to the armor (helmet, harness, arm, glove, thigh, shin, feet) the dmg is done "random" to 1 part each shot. If the armor is broke they offer no protection.

The armature need setup to attach armor at good pos/rot, I think i will snap bone at specific place only to place item on player, .. that mean 10-12 more bone on the player .. but i will look more intensively at bone axes later.

Most of the items are done, there will be 6 armor (7 part each), 9 weapon and few other things.
There will be some tool, but not sure if they will work yet.

Here another pic of the moment! (some stuff equiped, some drop on the ground... beware other player can take it!)

to equip/unequip item right click on icon in inventory and select equip/unequip

to be in shoot view : from default view press space then z
key z and space are the key to control the view and cursor

to access terminal: must be in cursor mode and click on it (change cursor mode press space)
window terminal appear .. click 1 time on item .. it will be add to your inventory (key i)

get 2 armor part and a weapon, then equip them.

And its continue ...

All found bug about the inventory/equip/craft/storage seem done.
Inventory slot is now bigger.
Stack item show quantity with a little number in icon corner (like the E for equipped item).
Crafting bring a new set of item.. mineral ore, mineral ingot and blueprint.
Now the quip armor (white) can only be acquire by crafting.

I wish mining and tool will be the next screen ...

16 minerals ore/ingot with 6 kind of blueprint (armor, weapon, tool, component, engineering, construction)


for those who was not able to loot every weapon/armor


this pic only show helmet and harness ... but a complete armor if 7 part (helmet, harness, thigh, shin, shoes, arm, glove)

BUG REPORT - on creating account in the email field u cant use some special characters that are needed like . and @

- auto downloader/updater is hard to implement. My updater alway see dxscene as a whole new file and do not just patch it. I have already create a clientLoader that check if the game is up to date and then start the game. But it always patch the whole game. When it will work, be sure i will post a link

on creating account in the email field u cant use some special characters that are needed like . and @
- if you click the username field and then travel with 'tab' its should work. I dint rewrite the login menu yet .. just have script to block char.

- dint found why but already got this bug. I dont get it all the time (maybe only on first login?). Maybe this is fixed, the camera script have change from v0.1.4

EDIT:

After some thinking about the account creation .. User will create account on website and the first time he log in game he will be able to create his avatar. The website will give access to a wiki to know what and how do stuff in game.

Some news ... few day earlier

Unzip soInstall.zip
Install the game with soInstall.exe
Click desktop icon to start the game.
(I have intentionally create 1 update)
If update needed, client loader will close, do the update and restart.
Now the Start button is availlable. (pressing start will only close the app..bug)
-just restart the app and click start again .. (updater seem do something weird, must investigate c# code)

New account are made ingame (for now, until the website is complete) BTW: sorry for banner, host come free with .com, will get a paid one soon.

Key reminder
wasd - movement
qe - rotate (only in tpsmode)
h - show top 10 list (your personal score is at bottom of this window)
z - change viewmode (fps/tps)
space - change mouseview (pointer/aim)
leftmouse - shoot (only in fpsmode and aimmode)

Must have been something to do with my resolution. Now im getting some error that disapears before I can read it. When I click start a message window pops up then both windows close.

Skills system implemented..
You receive skills when you do action
ex.: shooting with a weapons give aim skills
healing yourself or another player give firstaid skills.....
Chat show dmg/skills/loot/action message
Loot higher than 10 gold is told to everybody in game in the chat

Hey one thing, you can't put the @ symbol in the email to create an account...

All I can say is WOW. Seriously, this is a great project burny.

One thing I noticed, there is a slight lock up when new scenery is loaded. I don't know if this is a module thing, or what.

Can you explain how you are doing everything? Like are the trees using LOD, or are they managed modules? What about the land 'chunks' ? Are they modules?

I need to go back and read some things.

How did you do the auto update thing?

One more bug, I don't think I could shoot, even when I pressed Z.

More thoughts...

When I open the 'Trade' window, then click the Close button, my movement is locked up. I need to close the window by re-clicking the terminal.

The shadows don't seem right. When I move, they jitter all around, and it looks like there are 3 light sources or something:


Even when the ground is gone, the terminals, and robots stay. You can see them in the distance near the words:


Here I can see you are drawing the backfaces of trees, which you might HAVE to do for the branches. Which is a good idea for DX Studio to be able to set subgroups to draw backfaces, but not other subgroups:


I am more interested in the mechanics and how it all works. Are you using the DX Studio server? Are you using a local database, the same as the DX Studio server doc? Are you using physics? What about the AI for the robots?

Here a quick explanation for your questions.

Terrain chunk is module, tree are load in module, tree have 3 LOD.
Yeah look like client freeze when new terrain appear, must look at this. (it dont do this in a demo i have made)
Client loader is made by me in c#, autoupdater is licenced.
To shoot, you must equip weapon and have ammoL in your inventory. (some weapon use ammoZ) (ammoZ can only be looted on npc).
There is only 1 light source .. because the light distance is far, mapped shadow look like this.
Terminal, player and robot do not use new zone system yet. Thats why they always stay there. And there is no LOD on these model.
Dxstudio server is used, sqlexpress db.
When you kill robot, it come back as a "giant" because the first time he spawn, the scale is not set.
Physic is used to walk on ground
Robot AI is simple .. if you come in range it look at you, if you come closer he will attack you, then if you go away he will chase you.
I have diseable the "auto health" for now, you must equip a medic kit and heal yourself or other player.

btw... alt-printscreen take a screen of the active window only .. no need to edit it

Personally, I liked the space to jump more. I also don't get a weapon when I start now No gun in my inventory.

I also tried to kill the robots in the old version, and I died two times and didn't even kill one robot.

Later i will add a menu to bind the key you want.

There is a white terminal near start position. Click on it .. then click item in menu, it will appear in inventory. Im making a menu to buy item with ingame money.

Its a complicated gameplay for people not familiar with this game.
I got a hosting plan for my website, I will add forum and wiki to my website, and everything will be explained with image.

Some news...

The inventory was a demo from library/forum, that i have mod.

I have start build a new one.
This time only player inventory and storage will have a grid.
Other window will look like this...


The last item add to the control is always on top of other item .. I hope i will be able to manage the object order by script. Clicking on item that is over another item select the back image but move the front item. Must look at this.

In same time i introduce a new menu .. Recycling.
Recycling menu will be activated when you click on any trashcan labeled recycling.
Here you can recycle item you do not need for a good price.
...maybe recycling will give the ability to generate new unique item .. maybe you will be able to find recipe for this in loot or only by trial error...

burny. I am making it a personal goal to try and understand multi-player games better, and create a similar RPG type environment. Is there any way you would let me look at your server / client documents? Even older versions? I have to admit, I know next to nothing about networking games, and could use a great place to start.
